Mawlynnong

Mawlynnong village is the Most pristine Village in Asia.

Glimpse the Balancing Rock and the Living Root Bridge from tangled roots. On the outskirts of the townlet lies a balancing rock, a must-see natural wonder for science freaks. The spot has a wired fence with two stones, a huge boulder resting on a smaller stone. The structure has stayed intact for years, and nothing has been able to upset the formation. The spot, surrounded by bamboo plantations, is locally called Nature’sNature’s Balancing Rock or Maw RyngkewSharatia. 

Dawki

It lies at the border of India and Bangladesh and is famous for a suspension bridge over the Umngot River known as the Dawki bridge, constructed by the British in 1932. 

Dawki is a border town south of Meghalaya and a great ground to explore nearby Shnongpdeng and Darrang – favorite riverside bases. You will notice a combination of cultures and altering terrain as the hills integrate into the flats of Northern Bangladesh. Here, the sunset scenery is spectacular as you observe the lights beam above the neighboring plains over the gentle, dark river. Glimpse the crystal transparent waters of Dawki river and relish boating here.

Cathedral Of Mary

It is one of the antique churches in Northeast India. With its tall arches and detailed glass windows, the church is one of the most stunning structures in the city of Shillong. The works of art are created of terracotta and are said to have been made by the Art Institute in Munich, Germany. The burial of the earliest Archbishop of Shillong is on the left of the main altar. Another altar in front of the figure of Mary and Jesus is where special devotions are monthly.

Shillong Peak

At an elevation of 1970 m above sea level, Shillong Peak is the most elevated point in Shillong. It presents a spectacular scenic view of the whole city, the Himalayas, waterfalls, and the Bangladesh plains.

Elephant Falls

Named after an Elephant with a stone at its foot, the Elephant Falls are among the most visited falls in the North-East, near Shillong. The Britishers called this fall due to the existence of an elephant-shaped rock on one flank of the fall.

Cherrapunjee (Sohra)

Earlier the wettest place on the Earth, Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, also known as Sohra, is famous for its double-decker living root bridge. Located 50 km from Shillong, this town has rich flora and natural attractions. Although Mawsynram is now the wettest area on the planet, Cherrapunji yet maintains the highest registered rainfall in a calendar year. Apart from the famous living root bridge, other natural attractions comprise cave formations such as the Mawsmai Caves and KremPhyllut.   

Mawsmai Caves

There are some places inside the cave where you will need to squeeze around and wriggle – and this counts to the understanding of the cave probe. The Mawsmai cave path is not very long and safe, unrestricted to tourists. The cave is also famous for its mossbacks, which you can spot if you spend time peering at the walls and formations inside.

The Nohsngithiang Falls Or Mawsmai Falls

Popularly known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls because it has seven components. This splendid waterfall is the fourth highest waterfall in India, plunging down an altitude of 315 meters (1,033 ft) over the top of limestone cliffs of the East Khasi Hills in Cherrapunji. The Seven Sisters Falls is one of the primary tourist sites in Meghalaya and lures lots of travelers.

The Seven Sisters falls are the most famous in Cherrapunji, and during its peak season, the falls provide a majestic view for tourists. The separate falls take separate ways and forms, providing an array of intermingling water, giving it a beautiful face, and the scenery of the sheer cliff is fantastic.

Nohkalikai Fall

Nohkalikai Fall – is the most elevated plunge waterfall in India. Nohkalikai waterfalls are one of the best places to visit in Shillong. The stunning forests and verdant valleys aptly complete the captivating beauty of the falls.

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake, a fascinating artificial reservoir, is located 15 kilometers. The lake was formed after a dam was constructed to develop hydroelectric power. The scenic Umiam Lake is surrounded by lush green East Khasi hills that form one of the country’s best panoramic sights for nature-lovers. The sunrise at the lake is a joy to watch. Umiam Lake has a park bordering it.
